What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic care is a medical specialty that falls under alternative and complementary medicine (CAM) which focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the functions of the nervous system and general health.

What type of education is required to become a Chiropractor?

To be licensed as a doctor of chiropractic an individual must graduate from one of the 17 accredited chiropractic schools in the United States, pass a national exam and obtain required continuing education. A chiropractor is also required to apply for and obtain a state license to practice in the state of Pennsylvania.

How long will my first appointment take?

Typically your first visit will take between 20 – 30 minutes however, this time will vary depending on your chief complaint and needs, including x-rays. We believe in taking a thorough health history and performing a complete physical exam during your first visit to ensure we obtain all of the information necessary to treat you to the best of our ability.

Will I need to have X-Rays?

X-rays are sometimes needed prior to treatment depending on your age and health history. This will be discussed with you during your first visit.

Is a referral from a Primary Care Physician necessary to begin treatment?

No, a referral is not needed from your primary care physician.

Will treatment hurt?

While treatment shouldn't be painful, there are times when manipulation or rehabilitation will cause the muscles associated with the painful area to become tender or sore. This is a normal reaction and will subside.

Is chiropractic safe for pregnant women and children?

Chiropractic care is safe for both pregnant women and children.

Can I see a Chiropractor if I have had back surgery?

Yes you can, however please inform the chiropractor immediately of the type of surgery you have had. Medical reports, x-rays and any other information you can bring is extremely helpful to the medical staff to endure you receive the very best care.

Can I "walk-in" or do I need to make an appointment?

Walk-in's are welcome in our office however we cannot guarantee that you will be seen right away. Please phone our office if possible, typically a same day appointment can be made.

How do I reschedule an appointment?

What is gait re-education?

Gait re-education is a form of rehabilitation that focuses on the mechanics and muscle firing patterns of the lower extremity. Through gait re-education a person can correct their gait which may lead to a decrease in pain through their entire lower extremity and back.

What is sports performance?

Sports performance is the newest division of DSS. The sports performance division is intended for athletes of all ages who would like to increase their strength, speed, agility and skills through individualized sports specific training. What are your hours?

We are open in Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-1 and 3-7. Tuesday and Thursdays we are open from 2-7, Saturdays are typically by appointment only between the hours of 8-noon.
