The equipment we use consists of multiple pieces depending on a person’s needs and abilities. In addition to traditional chiropractic modalities such as electrical stimulation, traction and ultrasound we have some larger more specialized pieces. Additionally, our office is currently the only state of the art gait re-education center in Pittsburgh. Listed below are a few of the more specialized pieces of equipment we use as well as a brief description.

Unweighting Treadmill

Our unweighting system is beneficial to both our chiropractic and rehabilitation patients as well as athletes involved in sports performance. The chiropractic and rehabilitation patient will benefit from the low impact exercises they are able to perform whereas the sports performance athlete will be able to challenge themselves safely to run and train at speeds they thought were unattainable. Unweighting is achieved through the patients use of a vest and harness that is attached to an overhead "safety system". This system allows the patient to perform exercise at a lighter body weight than they normally would. As rehabilitation progresses, you are "unweighted" until you are back to performing exercises supporting your full body weight. Additionally the system will support you if you would happen to falter, eliminating falls and the likelihood of injury. Sports performance athletes find the unweighting system extremely beneficial during their sprint and speed training. In this instance, instead of the system acting to unweight the person, it is utilized as a safety mechanism in which the athlete can push themselves to their limits yet feel safe in that they are safe from falling since the harness will prevent this from happening. The system is fully rotational allowing the person to rotate while on the treadmill during rehabilitation and speed training.

Vibratory Plates

Whole body vibration is a novel concept that has recently emerged in the rehabilitation and sports performance world in the last several years. Currently we have 2 vibratory plates that are implemented with traditional training and rehabilitation. Whole body vibration during exercise has been shown to increase strength, speed and flexibility. Most recently, it has been shown to be beneficial in increasing bone strength of older adults. Hydro-therapy Table

The hydro-therapy table resembles a small water bed and allows you to experience a water massage. One hundred degree water is released at a high pressure throughout the entire length of the table while controls allow you to adjust the pressure, speed and area that is massaged. The water is contained within a rubber "bladder" so you stay warm dry and relaxed. Most patients relax on the hydro-bed for 10 minutes prior to their adjustment or rehabilitation, others come in just for a 10 minute massage escape from the day!
